Located on the shore of Table Bay on South Africa’s Western Cape, Cape Town is famous for landmarks including the majestic Table Mountain and Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 18 years. Developed as a port by the Dutch in the 17th century, today Cape Town is a buzzing tourist destination in close proximity to some of South Africa’s finest vineyards as well as the beautiful vistas of the Cape Peninsula.

The stretch of south-eastern coast known as the Garden Route displays spectacular scenery and wonderful flora and fauna in its numerous nature reserves for you to discover. Staying in characterful towns as you travel along the route, you’ll be treated not only to magnificent coastal views, mountains and lagoons, but also a taste of rural South Africa.

Your final stop is Kariega Game Reserve, a family-owned and operated private safari reserve located in South Africa's Eastern Cape. Situated on the Garden Route, the reserve is the perfect place to take game drives in search of the ‘Big Five’ game animals.

Encompassing spectacular scenery, unique culture and history, and the opportunity for some fascinating wildlife encounters, this fantastic holiday to the rainbow nation of South Africa is a truly unforgettable experience.

Holiday highlights

Cape of Good Hope

With one of the most romantic names in the world, the Cape of Good Hope was discovered by the Portuguese navigator Bartholomeu Dias in 1487 while trying to find the seaway to India. Initially, given the name ‘Cape of Storms’ because of a storm that almost wrecked the ship on the cliffs, King Juan II renamed it the ‘Cape of Good Hope,’ with the vision that this sea route to India would be well-travelled one day.

The Garden Route

The Garden Route stretches from Mossel Bay in the Western Cape to the Storms River. The name is due to the diverse range of vegetation found here. The numerous water basins along the coastline feature lakes, lagoons, mountains, tall forests, rivers and golden beaches.

Outeniqua Pass

This relatively modern pass connects the coastal town of George with Oudtshoorn and the Little Karoo. Built in 1951 to replace the Montagu Pass, it has been widened and modernized several times.
