View Dates & Prices

Puglia, on the heel of Italy’s ‘boot’, is an enchanting region with an intriguing history.

The conical whitewashed ‘Trulli’ which dot the landscape around Alberobello are a delight to see. Landmark cities include baroque Lecce - the ‘Florence of the South’, Bari with its atmospheric seaport and great shopping, and the unspoiled heritage towns of Trani, Ostuni and Martina Franca.

Along the coastline there are sandy beaches, while the green interior has views to take your breath away. Known for its superb olive oils and wines, Puglia has its own unique cuisine, with specialities including the famous ‘orecchiette’ pasta and fresh burrata cheese.

With a convenient direct flight from Dublin to Bari, there’s never been a better time to discover this very different part of Italy !

Coach transfer to and from Belfast (Glengall Street) to Dublin Airport on selected dates.

Holiday highlights

Locorotondo

A small and very picturesque village, located between Martina Franca and Alberobello in the green Valle d'Itria. Famous for its small quaint street and wine production, during your visit you will stop at one of the cellars for a local wine tasting.

Alberobello

The trulli in Alberobello itself are impressive, but the most beautiful concentration of conical trulli is along a stretch of about 15km on the Alberobello-Martina Franca road. Amid expanses of vineyards, you can see trulli put to all sorts of uses - including as wineries.

Basilica di San Nicola

In the città vecchia, overlooking the sea and just off Via Venezia, is the Basilica di San Nicola, built in the 11th century to house the bones of Saint Nicholas, the inspiration for Santa Claus. His remains, buried in the crypt, are said to have been stolen by Bari sailors from Myra. The basilica, of solid and powerful construction, was the only building to survive the otherwise wholesale destruction of Bari by the Normans in 1152.

‘Stuzzichini’

This is the word for the small snacks that are often served with an ‘aperitivo’ in Puglia. They might include plump, juicy olives, bites of local cheese, sun dried tomatoes, or Tarallini. These crispy little rings of baked dough, made with extra virgin olive oil and aromatic fennel seeds, are lovely with a glass of wine, and are a feature of the ‘treats cupboard’ in every Puglian household !
