Excursions which are included during your holiday are a city tour of Amsterdam with a canal trip, walking tours of Koblenz and Cochem with an opportunity for wine tasting, Rudesheim, Heidelberg and a city tour of Strasbourg. These tours are led by expert local guides who will share their wealth of knowledge and take you to the highlights of each destination. A programme of further optional excursions will be offered on board at each port of call, subject to availability.

Much smaller than an ocean liner, the ship will take you into the heart of most cities you visit, giving you more time to visit the attractions and enjoy your time ashore.

Holiday highlights

Cologne
Germany’s fourth largest city spans the river Rhine and was founded almost 2000 years ago by the Romans. The city was utterly devastated during the Second World War and is now characterised by the contrast between modern post-war architecture and the carefully and painstakingly re-built Old Town.
Amsterdam
The Dutch capital is renowned for its rich artistic history and winding canals dotted with narrow house and pretty bridges. The city’s museums are a must see for art lovers, with the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh museum boasting impressive collections of Dutch renaissance art.
Heidelberg
With its rich literary history and idyllic setting on the river Neckar, Heidelberg is one of Germany's most picturesque and romantic cities. The city’s main attraction is its magnificent sandstone castle which overlooks the red roofs of the baroque “Altstadt” or Old Tow, dating from the 18th century. Having survived World War II mostly unscathed, this small but cosmopolitan town is now one of the best preserved and most enchanting cities in the country.
4 Star Superior Amadeus Silver III

Icon
Afternoon

Amsterdam

On arrival in Amsterdam you will be met by our local representative before being transferred to the port to embark the Ms Amadeus Silver III for your 7 night cruise. Day 2 - Amsterdam & Hoorn

Icon
Morning

Amsterdam

This morning you will meet your local guide for your city tour of Amsterdam. On this tour through the Dutch metropolis, you will see the Royal Palace, numerous canals and the Museum Quarter. As there is no better way to see the city than cruising on the water, the tour will end with a canal boat tour. Afterwards, drive through the Dutch Polder landscape to the old fishing village of Volendam. The houses of Volendam are built very close together, forming a typical neighbourhood. Take a stroll through the old village and see people still dressed in traditional costumes. Board your coach and drive out of Volendam into the countryside to visit a local cheese farm. Here, you will learn how Dutch cheese is made and also sample the local produce. Afterwards, you will rejoin the vessel in the town of Hoorn.

Icon
Afternoon

Hoorn

Cruise along the Ijsselmeer, one of the largest inland freshwater lakes in Holland.

Day 3 - Cologne

Icon
Afternoon

Cologne

The ship will arrive into Cologne in the afternoon. Here you will enjoy a walking tour of Cologne to explore the surroundings of the famous Cathedral and the Old Town. In the narrow, cobbled streets of the Old Town and in the busy squares, such as the Old Market or the Hay Market, you will get a feeling for life in this city, both past and present. You will visit Cologne Cathedral, either accompanied by your guide or on your own initiative (depending on the opening hours of the cathedral and/or if a mass is celebrated). Since its completion in 1880, Cologne Cathedral is the landmark of the town and also one the most visited sites in Germany. The boat will depart Cologne around 8pm on this day.

Day 4 - Cochem

Icon
Morning

River Cruising

This morning, you will have some free time on the boat to relax and take in the passing landscape as you sail down the Rhine. You will arrive inthe town of Cochem in the early afternoon.

Icon
Afternoon

Cochem

In the most romantic part of the Moselle Valley, where the river curves between two hiking paradises - Eifel and Hunsrück - lies the old town of Cochem. There will be a walking tour and wine tasting this afternoon. The magnificent Reichsburg Castle, situated on a precipitous rock high above the town, dominates the landscape. The town of Cochem itself is a sight worth seeing; highlights include its narrow streets and twisty alleys, the lovingly restored half-timbered houses with the typical slate roofs, the historical market-place, medieval town gates, churches and walls.

Day 5 - Koblenz

Icon
Morning

Koblenz

This morning, arrive in Koblenz where you will enjoy a guided walking tour of the city. Koblenz is one of the most beautiful and oldest towns in Germany, with over 2,000 years of history. On the guided walk through the romantic streets between the St. Castor Basilica and the Liebfrauenkirche (the Church of our Beloved Lady) you will discover the most important sights of Koblenz. This tour would not be complete without a visit to the Emperor Wilhelm Memorial at the famous German Corner and the town’s landmark, the Schängel Fountain at the Town Hall. At the end of the walk you will reach the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers and the ropeway of Koblenz.

Icon
Afternoon

Rudesheim

In the afternoon you will have a walking tour in the romantic town of Rüdesheim, surrounded by gentle sloping vineyards and famous for its local wine, brandy and specialty coffee (careful - the local coffee and brandy are married in the "Rüdesheimer Kaffee" concoction!). After you have had time to enjoy your visit, your ship leaves the harbour around 10pm.

Day 6 - Speyer & Heidelberg

Icon
Morning

Heidelberg

This morning, the vessel will be docked in Mannheim and from there, you will be taken on an excursion to Heidelberg. Heidelberg is a world famous university city on the Neckar River. The town is one of the few German cities with a widely preserved baroque Old Town. The tour through Heidelberg begins with a visit to the Castle. The formerly splendid residence made of red sandstone is now in ruins. However, it is arguably the most beautiful ruin in all of Germany. The castle tour leads into the castle garden. From the Grand Terrace you will have a wonderful view of the city and the Neckar River. The tour continues with a stroll through the enchanting old town to the Karl-Theodor Bridge, the late-gothic Church of the Holy Spirit and the Town Hall.

Icon
Afternoon

Speyer

Following lunch on the boat, sail to Speyer. Speyer is one of Germany’s oldest cities which is located along the banks of the Rhine, in the Rhineland-Palatinate state of southwest Germany. An optional walking tour of the city will be offered in the afternoon (payable locally).
