Day
Castle Ashby Gardens & Market Harborough
Castle Ashby Gardens
This morning, we meet our expert gardener, Iain MacDonald, at Dublin Airport for our flight to Birmingham. Upon arrival, we journey to the magnificent Castle Ashby Gardens, the ancestral seat of the 7th Marquess of Northampton. Nestled within a 10,000-acre estate, the gardens span 35 acres and showcase a stunning blend of styles, including the romantic Italian Gardens, the elegant Orangery, and a striking Arboretum. A packed lunch will be provided to enjoy during our visit.
Market Harborough
Later in the afternoon, we travel to our hotel in the charming market town of Market Harborough, where we’ll gather for our evening meal together.
Hostellarie Garden, Coton Manor Garden & Cottesbrooke Hall & Garden
Hostellarie Garden
After a relaxed breakfast, we set off for a visit to the enchanting Hostellarie Garden—a private, elongated town garden thoughtfully divided into distinct "rooms." Meandering lawns and grassy paths lead us through a series of vibrant borders, serene ponds, and elegant water features. Highlights include abundant roses, clematis, herbaceous perennials, and an impressive collection of over 50 varieties of Hostas.
Coton Manor Garden
In the afternoon, we explore the beautiful Coton Manor Garden, gracefully situated on a hillside descending from a charming 17th-century manor house. Originally developed in the 1920s, the garden is arranged across multiple levels and brims with rich, colourful borders. Just beyond lies a five-acre bluebell wood and a picturesque wildflower meadow, offering a truly tranquil experience.
Cottesbrooke Hall & Gardens
We conclude our day with a visit to the renowned Cottesbrooke Hall & Gardens. Spanning 13 acres, these award-winning gardens include formal designs surrounding the stately Hall and a more naturalistic Wild Garden, where a gently winding stream adds to the idyllic charm.
Kelmarsh Hall & Gardens and Lamport Hall & Gardens
Kelmarsh Hall
We begin our day with a visit to the elegant Kelmarsh Hall & Gardens. These Grade II listed gardens are celebrated for their informal beauty and distinctive “haphazard luxuriance,” offering a delightful blend of colour, charm, and historical character.
Lamport Hall & Gardens
In the afternoon, we travel to Lamport Hall & Gardens, the ancestral home of the Isham family for over 400 years. Set within 10 acres of serene gardens framed by open parkland, the grounds feature expansive herbaceous borders and meandering shrubbery walks. With a rich collection of rare and unusual plants, the gardens offer interest and beauty in every season.
Quinton Old Rectory & Holdenby House
Quinton Old Rectory
After checking out of our hotel this morning, we begin the day with a visit to Quinton Old Rectory Garden. Set across three acres, this enchanting 18th-century garden blends formal structure with informal charm. Echoes of its ecclesiastical heritage are thoughtfully woven throughout, merging the elegance of a Georgian garden with a contemporary sensibility—creating a space that is both tranquil and uplifting.
Holdenby House
In the afternoon, we explore the historic Holdenby House, once the grandest private residence in Elizabethan England. Though now a private family home, it graciously welcomes visitors to enjoy its magnificent Grade I listed gardens—a perfect setting to reflect on the grandeur of the past.
