Your Guided Group Holiday to Bulgaria 

Experience the perfect combination of sun holiday and sightseeing trip with us on this 7-night break to Bulgaria. Well known as one of Eastern Europe’s premier beach destinations, Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast also holds a wealth of historic and cultural treasures that attract visitors from all across the continent. On this holiday, we’ll be based in the coastal town of Nessebar, within walking distance of golden sandy beaches and Nessebar’s charming UNESCO listed Old Town centre. From here, we’ll explore some of the coastline’s most notable destinations, including the ancient city of Sozopol, the former Greek trading port of Varna, and the beautiful palace and botanic gardens of Balchik. We’ll also have the opportunity to experience the Black Sea from the water with a boat trip to the island of St. Anastasia.

Please Note: Some excursions on this holiday will involve walking on hilly terrain and uneven surfaces.

Travel to Bulgaria

Arrive in Burgas

Upon arrival into Burgas, you will be met by our local representative in the airport before being transferred to your hotel in Nessebar.

Nessebar & Burgas

Guided Walking Tour of Nessebar

This morning you will enjoy a walking tour of the old town of Nessebar, a UNESCO world heritage site. With its 41 churches and variety of architectural styles there is plenty to enjoy on this small peninsula.

Watch Icon Afternoon

This afternoon you will go by coach to the nearby town of Burgas, the fourth largest city in Bulgaria. Your guided tour will pass by the emblematic landmarks of the city such as The Arch of St. Nikolay Miracleworker, the St. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral, and the Sea garden - a favourite place for the locals to relax and enjoy the excellent sea views. You will then return to your hotel for the evening.

St. Anastasia Island & Sozopol

Explore the Island of St. Anastasia

Watch Icon Morning

Today you will take a boat* to the island of St. Anastasia, a volcanic rock island located in Burgas Bay. A former church and prison, it is now open as a museum and hotel complex. Wander the church with its beautiful frescoes and enjoy some freshly picked tea in the island's cafè. *In the case of bad weather the boat trip will be substituted with a visit to the ancient site of the museum Aquae Calidae, the ruins of a 2000 year old spa resort and city.

Visit the Ancient Town of Sozopol

Watch Icon Afternoon

You will then return to shore and proceed by coach to the ancient town of Sozopol, one of the oldest towns in the Black Sea area. Stroll through the old town, named for the Greek god Apollo and known for its romantic atmosphere, full of artists, musicians and actors. On your guided walking tour you will see the Old City and its port. A visit to its Archaeological Museum is also included. You will then return to your hotel in Nessebar for the evening.

Today, you will have a day free to take in the local atmosphere and enjoy the sea views.

Varna & Balchik

Guided Tour of Varna City

Today you will visit the city of Varna, an ancient trading port founded by the Greeks, later conquered by both the Romans and the Turks, leading to a mixed cosmopolitan atmosphere in the town today. You will see sights on your city tour such as the 17th century Orthodox Cathedral and the Roman Baths.

Visit the Romantic Town of Balchik

You will then proceed for a scenic trip along the coastline to the picturesque, romantic little town of Balchik, famous for the largest and richest Botanical Garden on the Balkans and the Palace of the Romanian queen Maria. Enjoy the romantic place, wander the Gardens and cobble stoned paths, sit in her stone throne or walk 'The Bridge of the Sighs', make a wish and hope it comes true!
