Your Guided Solo Traveller Holiday To The Algarve

Stretching across the southernmost tip of mainland Portugal, the Algarve is famous for its year-round superb climate, fantastic beaches, dramatic landscape and quaint villages. And when you join us on this 7-night Portugal holiday, you’ll have the opportunity to experience them all for yourself. At the start of your Algarve holiday, there will be an opportunity to socialise with your fellow travellers during your ‘Welcome drink and meal.’ We’ll enjoy excursions to the picturesque, whitewashed town of Alte, the Moorish-influenced town of Silves and the famous fishing villages of Lagos & Sagres. A visit to the most western point of Europe, known as ‘the Edge of the World’ is a highlight for many guests. This trip also includes plenty of leisure time to visit the abundance of great beaches, bars, shops, restaurants and local markets by yourself or with your fellow travellers, with recommendations from your expert guide.

After breakfast you will have a welcome meeting at your hotel. During the meeting your guide will provide lots of tips and information about the local area to help get your holiday off to a great start! You will also receive suggestions of ways to spend your free days to suit your specific interests. You will have the day at leisure to relax at your hotel, stroll to the beach, or explore Albufeira. In the evening there will be an opportunity to join fellow travellers in a 'Welcome drink' followed by your evening meal.

Optional Excursion - Wine Tour

Why not indulge in a wine tour during your holiday? Savour more on this pre-bookable half day excursion; a great way to get to know Portuguese regional wines and wine-making processes, while discovering the Algarve countryside and its traditions. Discover the historic hill town of Silves, taking a leisurely walk along cobbled streets to the impressive Moorish castle, located at its highest point. In Silves we enjoy some free time to explore. See more as we experience a family-run vineyard and winery, with a wine tasting of three different wines, along with a typical Portuguese petisco (snack) of chourico (cured sausage), and cheeses.

Lagos & Sagres

Trip to Lagos

This morning, set off on a full day excursion which includes a visit to the charming town of Lagos. After a stop to see the spectacular rock formations at Ponta da Piedade, you'll travel along Lagos Bay where countless ships set sail in times gone by. Your guide will then accompany you on a walking tour of the town centre, passing places of historic interest including the church of Saint Anthony. After this, there will be free time to stroll through the cobbled streets, browse the souvenir shops and enjoy some lunch at one of the many cafes.

Visit to Sagres

In the afternoon, depart for the fishing town of Sagres where Portugal's famous explorer Henry the Navigator embarked on his voyages of discovery. The tour then continues to Cape St. Vincent, the most south-westerly point of Europe's mainland and home to a powerful lighthouse. Enjoy breath-taking views of the unspoilt western Algarve from this rugged cliff top setting, known as 'The End of the World', before returning to your hotel.

Today, you will have a day free for shopping and sightseeing at your own pace. Your local guide will be delighted to suggest activities to suit your interests and advise which highlights are a must-see.

Silves

Discover Silves

Set off for a morning visit to Alte, a typical Algarve village that has existed since the time of Roman occupation. In this picturesque, peaceful place with its springs, waterfalls and ancient bridge, take a walking tour through cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses that are decorated with lattice work and colourful borders. From Alte, continue to the well-preserved historic town of Silves, former capital of the Algarve and the most important city in the south of Portugal during Moorish times. You'll cross the Arade River, with a stop to see the impressive Roman bridge, then take a guided walk through the historic centre to see the Town Hall Square, the massive defensive walls and the Gothic Cathedral. There will also be time to shop for local handicrafts and a visit to the town's market before returning to the coast for an afternoon at leisure.

Free Time in The Algarve

Today, you will have a day free to relax and sightsee at your own pace. Don't forget to ask your guide to suggest activities that might suit your interests. You might like to take a trip into the centre of Albufeira and pick up some souvenirs, leather goods or clothes. Afterwards, enjoy a cool drink outside one of the small bars that line the streets, and watch the world go by.

Faro Town & Loulè

Excursion to Faro Town & Loulè

On today's half day excursion, you'll depart for Loulè, a traditional Portuguese town, including a walking tour, visiting the farmers market selling local produce, the town centre and the church of Our Lady of Conception where you can admire the beautiful blue and white glaze tiles. Continue on to Faro, capital of the Algarve region. Explore its cobbled lanes, quiet squares and pedestrianised streets, dotted with historic churches and small shops.
