Orientation meeting & walking day
This morning you will have an orientation meeting with your local expert walking guides. On each walking day throughout your holiday there will be a choice of either a moderate or a challenging walking route. During the orientation meeting your local expert walking guides will discuss the kind of distance and terrain you can expect for both walking options, and the level of physical fitness required to join either the moderate or the challenging route.
The moderate walking route will take in Uskovnica, an Alpine pasture on the Pokljuka plain, Voje Valley and Mostnica gorge. The Mostnica gorge is the perfect example of the creative and powerful forces of nature. The Mostnica stream has carved out a narrow gorge that expands over 2km in length. Admire the extraordinary rock shapes and pools that the water has created in the gorge as you follow the crystal clear stream, encountering gorge walls of up to 20m in height. In some places the stream bed is extremely narrow before widening in the upper part of the Mostnica to reveal the idyllic Voje Valley with rolling meadows and traditional Slovenian holiday homes. At the end of the valley is Voje waterfall. A packed lunch is included today, as well as on all walking days, for both the moderate and the challenging route. (Distance: 10km / Duration: 6 hours / Incline: 560m)
The challenging walking route will take in Triglav Lakes Valley, a rocky hanging valley in the Julian Alps, below the sheer sides of Mount Tičarica and Mount Zelnarica. The valley is also often referred to as the Seven Lakes Valley, despite having ten, and not seven, lakes in the valley! Located at 1500 above sea level, Triglav Lakes Valley is surrounded by stunning landscapes. Today's challenging hike will take you to three of the ten mountain lakes, through forests, across alpine pastures and past traditional timber framed farm buildings. There will also be the chance to catch a glimpse of Slovenia's highest mountain, Mount Triglav, and the surrounding mountains. (Distance: 20km / Duration: 9 hours / Incline: 700m)
The moderate walking route will begin in Vintgar Gorge, a 1.6km gorge that was carved by the Radovna River. Marvel at the vertical rocks of the Hom and Boršt hills as you pass by the gorges waterfalls, pools and rapids along an elevated wooden trail ending at a bridge overlooking the 13m high Sum waterfall. Afterwards walk up to Hom hill, before proceeding to Ojstrica and Osojnica peaks from which you will have beautiful views of Lake Bled and the surrounding mountains. (Distance: 13km / Duration: 5 hours / Incline: 300m)
The challenging route will take you to Mt Visevnik, one of Slovenia's most visited peaks. Starting from the Pokljuka Plateau, you will follow a mountain path which begins on open ground and is fairly easy underfoot before becoming a little more broken and rocky underfoot as you approach the summit of Visevnik. The challenging climb will definitely be worth it as once you reach the top there will be breathtaking views of the surrounding Julian Alps and Karavanke mountains. (Distance: 12km / Duration: 5 hours / Incline: 700m)
Full day at leisure
Today you will have a full day at leisure. You may chose to rest and recuperate at your hotel or enjoy some independent exploration in the Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj areas. This morning it will be time to say goodbye to your base in Lake Bohinj as you transfer by coach to Kranjska Gora, an alpine town nestled in the Sava Dolinka Valley of northwest Slovenia. Kranjska Gora enjoys an enviable location near the mountains and glacial lakes of Triglav National Park. During the winter months, Kranjska Gora is Slovenia's largest ski resort but is also an ideal place for hiking with endless opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts during the summer months. (Driving distance 70km / approximate duration 1 hour and 15 minutes). You will embark on your walking day en route from Lake Bohinj to Lake Bled, checking in to your hotel in the evening. The moderate route will take you to the Martuljek waterfalls. Starting in Gozd Martuljek, you will walk through Jasenje Planina, where you can see traditional Slovenian mountain huts and a local chapel, towards Mt Spik, underwhich you will find the Martuljek waterfalls. The upper waterfall is particularly impressive, descending in three levels over a 100m vertical wall. (Distance: 10km / Duration: 5 hours / Incline: 400m)
Today's challenging route will take you to the summit of Golica. Begin walking from the small alpine village Planina pod Golico, through forests, in order to reach the meadows on the slopes of the Karavanks mountain range. Hike towards the mountain hut before reaching the top of Golicia, from which you will have views of Slovenia to one side and Austria to the other. (Distance: 12km / Duration: 7 hours / Incline: 900m)
4 star hotel in Kranjska Gora (3 nights)
The moderate route will follow the Triglavska Bistrica trail. Begin your day in the Vrata valley in the heart of the Julian Alps towards the base of the northern wall of Slovenia's highest peak, Triglav. You will stop along the way at the Peričnik Falls before continuing along the trail under the Galleries, a series of hollowed conglomerate rocks which have been eroded by the stream. The last stop of the day will be the Aljazev dom mountain hut in Vrata valley, the largest glacial valley on the north side of the Julian Alps. (Distance: 10km / Duration: 4 hours / Incline: 270m)
Today's challenging route will take you to Luknja. Begin walking in the Vrata valley, walking along the Triglavska Bistrica trail before starting to slowly climb above the forest to see the surrounding mountains rising above the valley of Zadnjica. (Distance: 10km / Duration: 6 hours / Incline: 800m)
The moderate route will take you to Slemenova Spica, a wonderful grassy viewpoint in the Julian Alps. The coach will take you to Vrsic mountain pass which is 1611m above sea level and from here you will begin walking across the plateau which is surrounded by mountains. You will have the chance to see some of the most beautiful Slovenian peaks along the way , including Mt. Jalovec and Mt. Mangart. Upon reaching Slemenova Spica you will have views down towards the Planica valley, which has been made famous by the Planica ski jumps. (Distance: 10km / Duration: 5 hours / Incline: 300m)
