    Travel with us to Extremadura, a Spanish region and a little-known wonder just waiting to be discovered. Before we make our way to Extremadura, we'll spend one night and take a city tour of Toledo with its rich mix of Christian, Moorish and Jewish heritage. For the rest of our Spain holiday, we'll be based in Cáceres where we'll enjoy guided excursions to some of the country's lesser known, yet remarkable attractions. Discover Guadalupe Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and explore the flavours of the region with a wine tasting in Trujillo. We'll also visit the impressive Roman Theatre of Mérida, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, and uncover the Moorish charm of Badajoz and its magnificent Alcazaba fortress. If you want to see another side of Spain, join us to explore this under-the-radar region for a holiday full of cultural discovery.

    Arrive to Spain

    Depart Dublin for Madrid. On arrival, meet your guide and transfer by coach to Toledo. As our flight arrives early, sightseeing will take place before hotel check-in.

    Guided City Tour of Toledo

    Time: Half DayHalf Day

    Enjoy a guided walking tour of Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its mix of Christian, Jewish, and Moorish heritage. Highlights include the historic streets, main squares, and viewpoints. Entrance is included to the Church of Santo Tomé, home to El Greco’s famous painting The Burial of the Count of Orgaz. 

    There will be free time in the city centre for lunch before the check-in at the hotel.

    Travel to Extremadura

    Toledo to Cáceres

    Time: MorningMorning

    After breakfast, depart Toledo and travel by coach into the Extremadura region, one of Spain’s least developed and most traditional regions. The journey offers views of open countryside, olive groves, and rural villages. After approx. 3-3.5h transfer with comfort stops, arrive to Cáceres where you will be based for the remainder of your trip.

    Arrive in Cáceres, a UNESCO World Heritage city, well known for its preserved medieval old town, the base for the reminder of the holiday. The afternoon is free to relax or explore independently, perhaps wandering through the cobbled streets of the old town or enjoying a drink in one of its many historic squares.

    Cáceres & Plasencia

    Guided Tour of Cáceres

    Meet a local guide for a walking tour of Cáceres’ beautifully preserved old town. Discover medieval streets, Renaissance palaces, Moorish towers, and historic squares that reflect centuries of history. The city’s remarkable preservation has also made it a filming location for Game of Thrones. After the guided tour, there will be free time for lunch before continuing to Plasencia.

    Travel to Plasencia, set in the Jerte Valley and surrounded by medieval walls. Enjoy a guided walking tour of its historic centre, including the cathedral quarter and main square, followed by free time to relax and explore before returning to Cáceres.

    Guadalupe & Trujillo

    Guadalupe Monastery

    After breakfast, travel to Guadalupe to visit the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe (entrance included), an important religious site and UNESCO World Heritage monument. A guided visit introduces its rich history, remarkable architecture, and cultural importance, followed by free time for lunch.

    Trujillo & Wine Tasting

    Continue to Trujillo, a historic town known for its large main square and medieval castle. Here, enjoy a guided walking tour, including entrance to Pizarro’s House Museum, dedicated to the famous Spanish conquistador born in the town. Later, visit a local winery for a guided tour and two wine tastings, offering a pleasant introduction to the region’s flavours, before returning to Cáceres.

    Enjoy a full day at leisure in Cáceres. This is an ideal opportunity to explore the old town in more depth, visit local shops, enjoy a relaxed lunch in a traditional restaurant, or simply soak up the atmosphere of this historic city.

    Mérida

    Roman Mérida

    Time: MorningMorning

    This morning travel to Mérida, once the capital of Roman Lusitania. Enjoy a guided visit of its Roman heritage, including entrance to the impressive Roman Theatre, one of the best preserved in Europe. Mérida’s compact layout and excellent preservation make it one of the most accessible and rewarding Roman sites in Spain.

    Enjoy free time for lunch exploring more of what Mérida has to offer, before returning to Cáceres.

    Badajoz

    Walking Tour of Badajoz

    After breakfast, travel to Badajoz, a historic frontier city located close to the Portuguese border. Shaped by centuries of Moorish and Spanish rule, the city offers a blend of architectural styles and cultural influences. Enjoy a tour through the old quarter, including views of the impressive Alcazaba fortress, one of the largest Moorish citadels in Europe, the cathedral, and central squares. 

    There will be free time for lunch and shopping before returning to Cáceres.

    Return Home

    Travel to Dublin

    Time: AfternoonAfternoon

    Have a leisurely morning and say goodbye to Cáceres with one last stroll or a sit down at a local café, before your departure to Seville Airport in the afternoon. 

    Arrive to Seville Airport in the afternoon for your evening flight back to Dublin.
